ConnectRN Review - Nursing Side Hustle or Waste of Time? (2024)

ConnectRN Review - Nursing Side Hustle or Waste of Time? (1)

Thanks for stopping by to read my ConnectRN review.

You want to make more money, and picking up extra shifts is one way to do it. You may have bills piling up and debt weighing you down, and ConnectRN might be the solution.

Are they legit?

While some user reviews have called them a scam, that's not the case. I'll go over who started ConnectRN and where they are from.

Despite some complaints (which may be valid), they are legit. And with so many people living paycheck to paycheck and struggling against rising costs, our modern economy can always use more gig sites like ConnectRN, in my opinion.

In this review, I will explain what ConnectRN is, how it works, and what they do. The specific topics I'm going to cover are…

  • What is ConnectRN?
  • How Does ConnectRN Work?
  • ConnectRN Onboarding, Pay and Benefits
  • ConnectRN Reviews and Complaints
  • What I Like About ConnectRN
  • What I Don't Like
  • Where Do You Go From Here?

What is ConnectRN?

ConnectRN is a healthcare staffing agency that gives nurses, nurses aides, and clinicians an easy way to connect with medical facilities that need extra help.

They do this primarily through their app.

In other words, they are to healthcare workers and hospitals what Uber is to drivers and passengers. They provide a portal where nurses and nurses aides can sign up for extra shifts, manage their schedules, track their earnings and the number of shifts they've worked.

The app also keeps track of your documents and provides information and details about each facility you'll be working in.

ConnectRN is from Massachusetts with opportunities across the US. They are located along the Charles River in Waltham, with offices inside the historic Waltham Watch Factory building.

Their current address is:

203 Crescent Street (Watch Factory Lofts), Suite 403
Waltham, MA 02453

ConnectRN was started by co-founders Michael Wood, CEO from June 2015 – Oct 2019, and Idriz Limaj in 2014.

Originally a temporary staffing agency and side hustle of sorts, ConnectRN has grown into a multi-million dollar company with substantial increases in revenue (5200% in three years). In 2021 they raised $76 million in new funding and were ranked #72 on Inc. 5000 fastest growing companies in the US.

ConnectRN hires…

  • Registered Nurses (RN)
  • Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN)
  • Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA)
  • State Tested Nursing Assistants (STNA)
  • Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (GNP)
  • Geriatric Nursing Assistants (GNA)

The majority of job postings are for RNs, LPNs, and CNAs, and the facilities you may find yourself working in include:

  • Emergency Rooms
  • Intensive Care Units
  • Operating Rooms
  • Medical-Surgical Units
  • Pediatric ICUs
  • Cardiac Cath Labs
  • Dialysis units
  • Oncology/Hematology
  • Rehabilitation and Long Term Acute Care

How Does ConnectRN Work?

ConnectRN works by matching medical professionals with open shifts at hospitals and health care facilities across the US. They are paid for their time, not per shift, and can work any number of hours, including weekends, holidays, nights, and during breaks.

Once registered, you can install the ConnectRN app on either your Android or Apple phone, and connect it with your ConnectRN account.

Through the app you'll schedule your shifts. Choose when you want to work, and of course, your earnings will depend on the number of hours you put in.

With a simple-to-understand interface, the ConnectRN mobile app is easy to use.

  • Download and Install the ConnectRN app.
  • Connect your (ConnectRN) account.
  • You can search and apply for available shifts at various healthcare institutions using your smartphone.
  • Set your time preferences; how and when you want to be contacted
  • Get support and manage your credentials throughout hospitals, clinics, and nursing homes with automatic reminders.
  • Gain new skills and job experience by building up your profile to land more shifts.

Connect RN Onboarding

Step 1: Sign Up

Complete ConnectRN's online application.

Step 2: Provide Personal Details and Documentation

Add additional details and documentation so that ConnectRN can verify your education and work experience.

Step 3: Install The ConnectRN App and Start Working

Start taking shifts as soon as the ConnectRN team approves your application.

ConnectRN Benefits

ConnectRN's in-house employee benefits are not the same as those for nurses, nurse's aides, and clinicians.

As an employee, your ConnectRN benefits currently include 100% employer-paid premiums for:

  • Health
  • Dental
  • Vision
  • Short Term Disability
  • Long Term Disability
  • Life Insurance
  • Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance

These benefits are for you and your family.

ConnectRN also provides a flexible work schedule, health savings account contributions, and 401K matching.

However, if you're a nurse, a nurse's aid, or a clinician picking up extra shifts, those benefits are not available.

ConnectRn has typically hired medical professionals for part-time work only. However, they started hiring to fill full-time positions during the global pandemic. As a W2 employee, ConnectRN pays its share of Social Security and Medicare.

They also offer various rewards and benefits such as:

  • Shift bonuses, overtime, and hazard pay where applicable
  • Free welcome scrubs
  • STATcash – Get paid the next day.
  • Up to $350 in swag and apparel through ConnectRN's rewards program.
  • Discounts of 25 percent or more on brands like Cherokee, Gray's Anatomy, and Dansko through ConnectRN partnerships.
  • Tuition discounts and career development opportunities through ConnectRN partner programs.
  • ConnectRN platinum rewards box.
  • Referral bonuses.

ConnectRN Locations

ConnectRN is headquartered in Waltham, Massachusetts, and only has one location. However, they provide work at various healthcare institutions across the US and Canada.

How Much Does connectRN Pay?

Rates vary depending on how the job postings were listed, and are better than similar platforms such as Care.com and other online side hustles. All are base rate plus bonuses, hazard pay and other incentives, however, there are some discrepancies. Some job postings show a different rate in their title than they do in their description.

Some may be posting a base rate while others are showing an average based on bonuses, special shifts, etc. In these cases I chose the rate shown in the title for consistency (and because the descriptions are likely just copied and pasted from previous listings).

Something else to keep in mind, pay rates are generally higher on weekends than they are weekdays.

Based on the following job postings, these are the rates I used to estimate the top and bottom of connectRN's pay scale. Of course, it will vary depending on where you live.

Now, if you're just looking to make a few extra bucks in your spare time (like nurses and clinicians have spare time, right? 😉) rather than picking up full shifts, you can make some money withonline survey siteslikeInbox DollarsandSurvey Junkie.

They don't pay a professional's wage of course, but can be a good way to earn your first few dollars online if you're just looking for something simple and passive.

For something more substantial, you might consideran online business.

You may be be looking for more time with your children or struggling with health challenges that make long hours at work difficult.

If that’s the case and a full-time income online is what you want, knowing how and where to get started is what youneedin order to get what youwant.

Now, I'm going to give you afreestep by step beginner's guide to making money onlineand you can get it by Clicking Here

ConnectRN Drug Test

ConnectRN does not drug test remote workers. However, some individual facilities may require drug screening.

ConnectRN App

The ConnectRN mobile app is available for Apple and Android devices and supports the following languages:

English, Arabic, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Norwegian Bokmål, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Simplified Chinese, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Traditional Chinese, Turkish, Vietnamese

ConnectRN Community

ConnectRN's community is relatively small, it seems. At one time, they offered an online community app called The Beat. However, for reasons I'm not sure, The Beat has shut down and has been removed from the app store.

You can, however, communicate with ConnectRN and its members on Facebook.

ConnectRN Reviews and Complaints

Like most companies, the ConnectRN member reviews are mixed. Fortunately, they lean to the positive.

Still, there are some complaints you should be aware of. For example, this reviewer was disappointed by ConnectRN's support.

ConnectRN Review - Nursing Side Hustle or Waste of Time? (4)

Here's another who goes so far as to accuse ConnectRN of being scammers.

ConnectRN Review - Nursing Side Hustle or Waste of Time? (5)

I can only speculate on the legitimacy of these complaints. Clearly, people have different experiences, and it must be said there are two sides to every story. I'm not defending ConnectRN here, nor am I condemning them.

The vast majority of reviews are positive. On the Apple App Store, ConnectRN has an overall rating of 4.0 out of 5 stars.

On Google's Play Store, they have an overall rating of 3.5 stars (also out of 5). However, the complaints on the Play Store are often about things related to the app, such as freezes, GPS not working, etc., rather than the company.

Having said that, you can still find complaints about things like pay, not enough available shifts, etc.

Some other complaints you'll find on sites like Indeed, where they currently have an overall rating of 3.7 out of 5, are:

  • Siding with a facility's complaint and suspending your account without evidence.
  • Hard to get in touch with support.
  • Missed paychecks.
  • Shift cancellations.
  • No employee benefits or earned hours off.

Again, I can't confirm the legitimacy of every complaint, but I don't doubt some of them are justified.

Review ratings are somewhat skewed though, because they don't represent every member. They only represent every reviewer. And people who have a complaint are far more likely to leave a review.

So, even though you can find dozens of ConnectRN members with a complaint, they don't speak for the thousands of healthcare workers who are happily picking up shifts (and have not left a review).

With that said, there are many positive reviews as well. Among the good things members say are:

  • Flexible and good pay
  • Free scrubs and hoodie
  • Friendly work environment
  • Easy to manage and schedule using the app
  • Last-minute canceled shifts provide 4 hours pay.

What I Like About ConnectRN

  • Decent pay for a “side hustle.” It might not compete with your regular income but in some cases, it will be competitive.
  • Easy to manage your schedule, documents, etc., using the mobile app.
  • Flexible working hours.
  • Weekly pay and STATcash next day payments.

What I Don't Like

  • No “employee” benefits
  • Complaints about support

Where Do You Go from Here?

Nursing may or may not be what you imagined it would be, but it does provide a relatively uncommon level of pay and job security. With rising costs, though, it might not be enough.

The additional shifts and decent pay offered by ConnectRN can go a long way to paying down debt and bills. Or maybe boost your savings for early retirement.

For many, nursing is a passion and there's no better career than one with purpose. The world needs nurses and because of that, it can also be physically, mentally, and emotionally draining.

If instead you want fewer shifts, rather than more, an online businessmay be an alternative.

You may be be looking for more time with your family or struggling with health challenges of your own.

With all the scams and schemes out there, knowing how and where to get started is what youneedin order to get what youwant.

Now, I'm going to give you afreestep by step beginner's guide to making money onlineand you can get it by Clicking Here

As mentioned earlier, if you’re just looking for a few extra bucks, simple get-paid-to sitesandonline survey sites can provide a short break from what you're doing.

Sites like Survey Junkie will pay for your opinion andInbox Dollarsoffers rewards for doing things like watching videos, visiting websites and searching the web.

They won't make you rich, of course, or replace your job… but they're a good way to earn a little extra spending money and take your mind off of your day.

I hope my ConnectRN review has been helpful. Please share any comments, questions, or experience with ConnectRN in the comments section below.
